Commenting on the news published today (January 9), that campaigners in Barry have called for an immediate halt to work on the Barry biomass incinerator, a Welsh Conservative spokesperson said:
“The Docks Incinerator Action Group (DIAG) has stated its view that the Barry biomass plant is a ‘development of national importance’.
“One of our manifesto commitments is impose a moratorium on approvals for new large-scale incinerators in Wales, a category this controversial incinerator plant easily falls into.
“We are the stewards of the environment, and a future Welsh Conservative Government would work to protect and enhance environmental protection across Wales.”
Andrew RT Davies AM/AC, Shadow Minister for the Environment, has spoken passionately on the issue of the Barry incinerator.
Last year he said:
“The incinerator is without doubt the number one issue of concern in Barry, and residents rightly expect the council to be fighting their corner. I was appalled to learn the extent of their conversations with the Welsh Government amounted to it being mentioned once in passing.
“The slapdash attitude from the Labour Welsh Labour Government is unacceptable. The administration has let local people down.”
