Peterston Conservatives are calling for action to tackle the long standing flood risk in the village to be treated as a “top priority”.
The River Ely has burst its banks several times, causing considerable disruption and damage in the village.
The area around the Sportsmans Rest has been a particular trouble spot, with the pub itself flooding frequently.
Shadow Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services Cllr Vince Driscoll said,
“Investment is urgently required to reduce the flood risk and this needs to be properly monitored. The fact it keeps happening shows a more proactive approach is required because it’s simply not fair that residents should have to put up with this. A Conservative-run Council will bring forward a comprehensive strategy to monitor the flood risk and take all necessary steps to sort it out.”
